A ROSCREA, Co Tipperary, meat factory has ceased trading. Freshland Foods has already issued redundancy notices to its 115 employees through the post.
The closure does not come as a surprise locally because operations have been scaled down the past year. The bulk of the workforce has not received regular work over the past nine months.
Ashbourne Meats in Naas, which exports vacuum-packed beef is interested in purchasing the plant. The company has conducted negotiations with the owners of Freshland Foods, but a deal has yet to be finalised.
