Some 47 Romanians who arrived in Ireland hidden in a container were welcomed to Castleblayney, Co Monaghan yesterday.
The families, who were discovered at Rosslare Port last Friday, were taken by coach yesterday to a hostel at the Lough Muckno Leisure Park at the town.
The manager of the centre, Ms Joan Langan, said the invitation to the Romanians had been made upon hearing of their plight in Wexford and of the difficulties experienced by St Vincent de Paul in catering for them.
"We are providing all the facilities which normal holidaymakers enjoy " she said. "They will also have the use of the scenic lake and wooded areas".
The group comprises 27 adults and 20 children aged between four and 15. Two of the women are pregnant and health board officials have arranged for medical supervision.
Last night some local business people delivered gifts of clothing to the families.
A Department of Justice spokeswoman said the Romanians were being temporarily accommodated pending the processing of applications to remain.
