The Rolling Stones are scheduled to play a Dublin concert in September even though they do not have planning permission for the event, MCD promoters has confirmed.
Despite having no planning permission yet, MCD's plans are nearly complete for the once-off concert. Details of date, tickets and venue will be announced early next week.
The venue is expected to be either the RDS or Lansdowne Road and a crowd of 35,000 is expected.
The RDS has planning permission for only three outdoor events a year and these have been used up by Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance. However, the Bee Gees are playing a concert in the RDS at the end of August without planning permission being granted yet, said MCD.
"Using the Bee Gees' concert as a precedent, we have decided to go ahead. Planning permission doesn't seem to be a problem as the Bee Gees have been allowed go ahead without permission," said MCD publicist Mr Justin Green.
Dublin Corporation, which grants planning permission for outdoor events such as concerts, could not be reached for comment last night.
