A Part-time soldier with the Royal Irish Regiment was fined £120 after he admitted causing £1,150 worth of damage to a car in Skerries, Co Dublin, last Saturday. Keith Moore (27), Oldtown Road, Ballaghy, Co Derry, appeared in court with Geoffrey Johnson Mawhinney (37) Leitrim road, Castledawson, Co Derry. They pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a car at Balcunnin, Skerries.
The defendants said they had parked in a field and attended the Skerries motor bike races. As they were leaving they had trouble getting out because of another car obstructing their way. They slashed two tyres and kicked the passenger door of the other car. Relatives of the men were in court with £1,150 which was given to the Garda to pay the injured party. Both men apologised for causing the damage and to the Garda and the court. Judge William Early fined each of them £120.
