Jakarta - Rioting in two Indonesian towns on the islands of Sumatra and Sulawesi have left one person dead, up to 14 injured and scores of shops damaged, press reports said yesterday. Kompas and the Jakarta Post said one man died and 14 people were injured, some by bullets, at Tanjungbalai in North Sumatra, after mobs went on the rampage on Wednesday and attacked shops and businesses.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's former president Suharto was yesterday seen praying at a public mosque in Jakarta in his first public appearance since he resigned last week, a witness said.

Indonesia's state oil and gas company Pertamina has identified at least 120 Suharto-linked companies among its contractors and suppliers, a report said yesterday.
