SEOUL - A South Korean riot policeman died of injuries after being beaten by students armed with metal bars during fierce clashes yesterday outside a Seoul university.
The 21 year old officer, Mr Yoo Ji-woong, who died in hospital, was the first fatal victim in four days of protests by up to 10,000 students demanding the resignation of President Kim Young-sam.
The violence was caused by President Kim's refusal to bow to opposition demands and reveal how much he spent on his 1992 election campaign.
