Riegger maintains Honda Classic lead
09/03/02: John Riegger opened with a nine-under-par 63 and then shot a second round 69 for a two-stroke lead when play was suspended due to darkness in the Honda Classic at Coral Springs, Florida.
Seeking his first top-10 finish on the PGA Tour, Riegger has missed the cut in his previous three tournaments this season.
But his first round set a course record at the TPC at Heron Bay and his second round was good enough to keep him on top with 68 players still on the course and 24 more who did not even tee off.
"It was a very long day, especially with the delay this morning," Riegger said. "I've been on my feet since five o'clock this morning."
He will consider it all worthwhile, though, after claiming the lead at 12-under 132.
Paul McGinley added a 70 to his opening 73 and at one-under looks as though he will make the cut.
It was all going well for Richie Coughlan before play was suspended. The Birr professional was three-under overall through 16 holes. PA
