A Royal Marine soldier from Belfast who was jailed for four years for soliciting the murder of IRA suspects is to have his sentence reviewed after arguments by the Attorney General that the sentence was too lenient.
Derek William Adgey (24) was sentenced last October after admitting 22 charges relating to information he abstained while on duty in west Belfast and gave to the UFF.
In the Court of Appeal in, Belfast yesterday the Attorney General was given leave to apply for a review of the sentence on the grounds that it was "unduly lenient".
The application stated that "the sentence "failed to reflect factors of retribution and deterrence, and to serve the interests of society as a whole".
The Lord Chief Justice, Sir Brian Hutton, and Lord Justice MacDermott granted leave and fixed the appeal hearing for January 19th.
