Review of Slash on the main stage at Oxegen this evening.
Atmosphere: "Are you ready to rawk" asked the main stage announcer, a fitting introduction to the last of the guitar legends Slash.
The man has been showcasing his excellent self-titled solo album, but the young crowd who were glints in their parents' eyes when Guns' n Roses stab at greatness, Appetite for Destruction, was released sang along to songs like Nighttrain, Mr Brownstone, My Michelle and Sweet Child of Mine as if they were released yesterday.
High: A trio of Appetite for Destruction songs followed by Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas to duet on the song they wrote together, Beautiful Dangerous.
Low: Exhilarating as it was, Beautiful Dangerous sounded under-rehearsed and Fergie strained for the high notes.
Quote: How the f*** do you follow that (Fergie)?
Verdict: Slash remains the most charismatic guitarist in the world. Hard rock and metal has been strangely under-represented at Oxegen for years. It is time that changed.
