Residents living next to Mountjoy Prison are preventing contractors hired by the Department of Justice from moving in on a green space to create a temporary car park while the new women's prison is being constructed.
The Royal Canal Park North Action Group, made up of about 20 households, is blocking access to the green with cars and has pitched a tent which runs the length of the prison's west side.
One resident, Mr Paddy Mooney, said the park belonged to the public via Dublin Corporation.
