THE search for a German family believed missing on Mount Brandon, near Tralee, Co Kerry, was called off yesterday after they were found safe and well in a guesthouse in Dingle.
Mr Michael Haferkamp, who is on holiday in the region, had driven to the foot of the mountain, at Cloghane, with his wife and two teenage children on Sunday. His intention, according to gardai, was to walk across the mountain to the Dingle side.
However, when his car was discovered late on Sunday evening where he had left it the alarm was raised. Yesterday the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team and a helicopter from Shannon were called out.
Unaware that a search was being mobilised, the Haferkamp family had booked into a guesthouse in Dingle where they spent Sunday night. The search was called off after Mr Haferkamp contacted gardai yesterday.
