Remand over Dublin murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Stephen O'Halloran (20) in Tallaght in south west Dublin last January.

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Stephen O'Halloran (20) in Tallaght in south west Dublin last January.

David Patchell (19) from Rossfield Crescent in Tallaght was brought before Dublin District Court at 4.30pm charged with the murder and also with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to two other men on the same date.

Mr O'Halloran (20) was shot in the head as he sat in a car outside his mother's house at Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght on January 19th. He died at the scene.

The two other men in the car with Mr O'Halloran on the night he was shot tried to escape the gumen, but they were shot in the upper body as they ran.

Mr Patchell was arrested at his home last Tuesday morning and his period of detention was extended twice. He was charged with the offences this afternoon.

Judge John Coughlan remanded him in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
