US rock group REM are to release a double album recorded live during a week of gigs in Dublin.
The band held five nights of working rehearsals at the Olympia Theatre in July 2007 choosing the best moments for the new 39-song record.
Guitarist Peter Buck described the run as an experiment in terror. “We were just trying to do something we hadn’t done before,” he said.
“Which meant there was no relaxing during the set. Every second we were playing something we didn’t know all that well. Which was kind of good - there were all kinds of terror elements going on during that show.”
REM Live at the Olympiagoes on sale on October 26th.
The band said the album includes early versions of songs recorded on their 2008 studio album, Accelerate. Two songs - "On The Fly" and "Staring Down The Barrel Of The Middle Distance" - that were only performed live during the five-night run are also included.
Live At The Olympiaalso includes fans' favourites from older albums and can also be bought with a DVD featuring concert and backstage footage.
