Midlands: Despite heavy snow showers earlier, main routes around the midlands remain passable with extreme care this evening.
In Westmeath, the N4/M4 between Kinnegad and Longford has been treated and one lane in each direction is operational.
Motorists are being advised not attempt to overtake other vehicles. The N6/M6 between Kinnegad and Athlone is also open on a one lane basis.
Bus Éireann services are continuing with some delays around the midlands. The Athlone to Waterford services has been restricted and will only run to Portlaoise.
Delays are expected on the N4 Dublin/Sligo Road between Rooskey and Newtownforbes in Co Longford, due to a burst water main. Drivers should exercise extreme care due to icy conditions.
Laois County Council has begun distributing grit at a number of depots around the county. The grit is being offered to community and voluntary organisations.
Two roads remain closed in Co Laois. The ‘Cut’ Road, between Mountrath and Clonaslee and Mountrath to Kinnitty Road.
Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution while travelling on the N80 between Two Mile Bridge and the county boundary with Offaly.
Offaly County Council has said it will cease salting some roads over the weekend in order to conserve salt stocks.
The authority has identified eleven routes which will cleared by snow ploughs instead of being treated with salt.
In a statement the council said: "Due to long duration of freezing weather being experienced, a plan to conserve salt stocks has been implemented.
Over the weekend priority three routes and non-main routes in towns will not be salted. Snow ploughs will work to clear routes when possible." A full list of the affected roads is available on the council's website. - Eoghan MacConnell
Northeast: Gardaí in Meath are advising motorists using the Ashbourne bypass to take extra care. The road was been gritted but they say caution is still required.
Caution is also advised near Kilmessan where there is a lot of ice and in Julianstown where they say the road has not improved to any great extent.
There was snow across many parts of Meath this afternoon and motorists have been reminded to use their foglights while driving in falling snow. - Elaine Keogh
Northwest:
Donegal County Council said this evening all main routes in the county are passable with care despite up to six inches of snow falling overnight.
The worst problems were experienced in Inishowen, on the Barnesmore Gap and in parts of south and south west Donegal.
In Leitrim people were again urged to conserve water stocks as supplies begin to dry up because of increased consumption.
Some areas, including Kinlough, have already had their water turned off at times with people being warned that further disruptions will follow over the weekend and into next week. - Stephen Maguire
Cork: Subzero overnight temperatures made for the worst morning yet of the current cold spell in Cork city today with many roads and footpaths proving extremely treacherous as council staff worked to salt the main thoroughfares.
Gardaí reported a major increase in the number of collisions this morning as roads into estates on higher ground on both the northside and southside of the city proved very icy and dangerous.
Cork City Council road maintenance crews were on salting and gritting duty on main traffic routes, bus routes and areas adjacent to hospitals, universities and schools and the council has made salt and grit available to local residents associations.
Bus services to Grange and Frankfield were both with both services going only as far as Douglas while the No 14 service to Wilton was also curtailed and going only as far as Togher.
Some footpaths in the city centre remained icy up until around lunch hour but a rise in temperatures and a burst of sunshine in the early afternoon improved the situation.
There is concern that melted ice could re-freeze as temperatures drop tonight.
Meanwhile roads in Co Cork continued to prove highly dangerous with secondary roads around Bandon, Dunmanway, Clonakilty, Skibbereen and Bantry especially treacherous following overnight temperatures as low as minus 4 degrees. - Barry Roche
