An illegal immigrant trying to sneak in to Britain was electrocuted and killed while hiding on top of a freight train headed toward the Channel Tunnel.
Several dozen refugees had tried to hide aboard the train but were discovered, train operator SNCF said.
The victim, a man in his twenties, escaped the security check and remained on board.
He was electrocuted when the train passed under power lines near Frethun, in northern France.
Neither the victim's identity nor his nationality were known, but he had been staying at a Red Cross centre in northern France.
Every night, refugees staying at the center in Sangatte either try to hop on trains passing through the tunnel or cross it by foot.
Eurotunnel, the British-French company that runs the rail link under the English Channel, has tried unsuccessfully to get the camp closed down.
