GENEVA - Responding to a humanitarian crisis as Israel continued its five day old offensive on Lebanon, the International Committee of the Red Cross yesterday sent additional staff and supplies to the area.
The ICRC, which has four delegates in Lebanon, has sent medical staff to deal with the wounded, spokesman Mr Kim Gordon Bates said. Mr Gordon Bates could not confirm the number of ICRC representatives leaving for Lebanon, but said current teams would be reinforced considerably.
The ICRC plans to concentrate its efforts on the Tyre region where some people have stayed in their villages, he said.
