The Irish Red Cross has raised €1 million as part of its floods disaster appeal it announced today.
The appeal was launched at the end of November in response to the severe flooding around the country.
Declan O’Sullivan of the Irish Red Cross said the amount raised is “a true testament to the kindness and generosity of the Irish people particularly in these difficult economic times”.
Applications for financial assistance from the flood relief fund are currently being processed with the society reporting a strong interest.
Mr O’Sullivan encouraged members of the public whose homes have been affected to fill out and return an application form as soon as possible. The closing date for applications is Friday January 22nd 2010.
Application forms can be found by logging onto www.redcross.ie or calling 1850 50 70 70.
