Royal Bank of Scotland said 95.1 per cent of shareholders had subscribed for its record £12 billion rights issue, leaving about £730 million pounds of shares to be placed by underwriters.
The leftover "rump" of 299.4 million shares is expected to be placed on Monday by the deal's underwriters -- UBS , Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs .
RBS launched the rights issue to rebuild one of the most stretched balance sheets among European banks. Its shares closed on Friday at 245.5 pence.
