The Dublin Chamber of Commerce has called for a reduction in rates throughout the county, claiming it would protect jobs.
The body said a reduction in commercial rates of 10 per cent could save up to 2,000 jobs.
The call was made ahead of tonight's meetings of Dublin City Council, South Dublin County Council and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, when they will vote on their Budgets for 2010.
"A year ago, the Dublin local authorities mistakenly raised commercial rates at a time when businesses were struggling to survive," said Gina Quin, Dublin Chamber chief executive.
"Businesses found these inconceivable at a time when they were cutting costs across the board in order to remain trading, protect the business and the jobs they generate. Now is the time to correct those costly actions and support businesses to stay open and hold on to their staff."
Ms Quin warned failure of local government to reduce the rates would cost the central Government €40 million as income tax dipped and benefit payments increased.
