Conservationists in Scotland are asking Co Antrim locals to keep an eye out for a five-month-old fledgling eagle who flew the nest to Northern Ireland over Christmas.
The rare white-tailed eagle, named Valiant, crossed the Irish Sea from his home on Isle of Mull. It is thought stormy weather in early December may have aided him.
The young eagle had stayed close to his parents since he hatched. He was spotted by locals over Christmas in Altnahinch, on the Antrim Plateau, who saw his wing tag and noted it down.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds said a distant sighting a few days ago back on Mull suggested he may have returned to his home turf. Dave Sexton of the society is appealing for anyone who may have spotted the bird while on his journey to make contact. - (PA)
