An expert witness has told the trial of a man accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter that there is strong DNA evidence that the accused fathered her child.

The 48-year-old Sligo man has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to eight counts of sexual assault and seven counts of rape at the family home between September 2005 and September 2007. The victim, now aged 19, has alleged her father sexually abused her once every two to three weeks from the age of 13. The trial continues before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury.
