The trial of a young Sligo man who denies rape was adjourned yesterday to October 7th. The judge was told by counsel for the prosecution that the mother of the alleged victim had written to the Central Criminal Court to protest at delays in the trial.
Mr Justice Moriarty noted that the trial had been due to start in June and said he would have been anxious to fix a new date if that was feasible.
But dates had been fixed from October to February for a list of rape and murder trials. Therefore, this case would have to be adjourned over the summer vacation to October, by which time a vacancy might have arisen.
