A Dublin garda accused of beating and raping a 23-year-old Sligo woman last September on the Canary island of Tenerife was on his way home last night after the charges against him had been dropped, the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.
The attack allegedly occurred early on September 2nd in the Playa de Americas resort, on the south of the island. The woman was treated for facial injuries and bruising.
The garda was detained shortly after she reported the alleged assault to local police.
A spokesman for the Department said all that was known about the case was the charges had been dropped.
