Scottish-based company Ramco Energy has announced the discovery of significant reserves of natural gas 47 km off the coast of Cork.
The 48/24-5A appraisal well, Ramco’s first in the Seven Heads field, tested a maximum flow rate of 13.7 million cubic feet of gas per day at a flowing tubing pressure of 546 psig, from Upper Wealden sandstones. The result confirms Ramco’s technical projections and is significantly better than results from previous Upper Wealden tests on the structure. The well will now be suspended and will be incorporated in future development planning as a potential producing well. The success of the first well and the extensive test data acquired have provided Ramco and its partners with sufficient information to progress development options for the field without the need to drill the second appraisal well this year. The Seven Heads Group includes Ramco (Operator) (49 per cent); a subsidiary of Duke Energy (26 per cent); Island Petroleum Developments (20 per cent); Northern Petroleum Plc (4 per cent), and Sunningdale Oils (Ireland) Ltd (1 per cent). "This is an excellent result in the right place at the right time. We’ve had positive support throughout from the Irish Petroleum Affairs Division of the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, and from our partners. This is a very encouraging start from our new project development team led by Dan Stover," Steve Remp, Executive Chairman of Ramco said.
