Raiders who tied up and threatened staff at the Rossnaree Park Hotel, Dublin Road, Drogheda, Co Louth, early yesterday got away with a substantial sum of money.
Two of the raiders had booked a room in the hotel and were joined by two others, who appear to have been admitted through the fire escape. At about 5 a.m. they used knives and hammers to threaten the night porters and ordered them to open the safe.
Three people were questioned by gardai in Drogheda yesterday and were later released. A Garda spokesman said that a file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
