Chicago - A wounded police officer was being held hostage by a suspected bank robber in downtown Chicago yesterday after a joint police-FBI operation to arrest the suspect went awry.
The officer was shot shortly after 4 p.m. Irish time at an apartment block after officers went to the suspect's home to arrest warrant him.
The accountant, who was also wounded, is believed to have stolen $239,000 and had barricaded himself into his apartment.
