Radio chief attacks limit on ownership

THE chief executive of Dublin radio station FM 104 has attacked the rules that limit ownership of radio stations in Ireland. Interviewed in Marketing magazine, Mr Dermot Hanrahan said it was "outrageous" that station owners could not have more than a 25 per cent share in another local station.

"If I wanted to go to France or Germany, I can buy a radio station, but not in Ireland. Surely it is in the national interest that money acquired by Irish radio be reinvested in the medium to create jobs and a greater future? There is such a paranoia in Government circles about developing mini Time Warners," he said.
