Ennis gardai were yesterday investigating a racist attack on a Nigerian man at 2.30 p.m. last Saturday in the town's market area. A Garda spokesman said the 35-year-old man was subjected to racist abuse and assaulted by two men in their mid-twenties.
He appealed for witnesses and said gardai were following a definite line of inquiry.
Ms Orla Ni Eil, spokeswoman for the Irish Refugee Council, said there was a responsibility on everyone to create a climate where such attacks would not be tolerated.
