An inquest into the death of murdered Dublin woman Rachel O'Reilly has been adjourned for six months as a Garda file in relation to her death is currently with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Insp Oliver Keegan, from Balbriggan Garda station, yesterday sought an adjournment at Dublin County Coroner's Court, sitting in Tallaght.

"A file in relation to the death is currently with the DPP. We are seeking an adjournment until next year," he told the court.

Coroner Dr Kieran Geraghty granted an adjournment until March 20th under Section 25 of the Coroners Act because of ongoing criminal inquiries. "The file is before the DPP. At the moment no one has been charged. Again, I'd like to extend my sympathies to the family of Rachel O'Reilly."

Outside court Insp Keegan said he was "hopeful" that the file would be back from the DPP shortly.

In March or early April, gardaí sent a file on the case to the DPP following the release without charge of a woman suspected of withholding information in the case.

Ms O'Reilly (30), a mother of two, was found dead at her home in Baldarragh near Naul village by her mother, Rose Callely, on October 4th, 2004.

The alarm was raised when Ms O'Reilly failed to collect one of her children from a creche. She was killed after receiving several blows to the head with a blunt instrument. When Mrs Callely went to the house she found her daughter dead in the bedroom.
