The Supreme Court has granted permission for Seán Quinn jnr to attend the court on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week when an appeal against a finding of contempt of court will be heard.

In a brief special sitting of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Mrs Justice Susan Denham was told by Barry O'Donnell, for the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, which incorporates Anglo Irish Bank, that he had no objection to the application.

Ms Justice Denham, sitting with Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman and Mr Justice Frank Clarke, said they had read the papers in the case and were satisfied that it was appropriate that Mr Quinn jnr be present in court next week.

Brian O'Moore SC, for Mr Quinn jnr, told the court that earlier this month the solicitors for Quinn family members had come off record but that law firm Eversheds was still acting for Mr Quinn jnr in relation to the appeal. The family was grateful to the bank for that, he said.

Mr Quinn jnr was found guilty of contempt of court by the High Court and sentenced to jail in July in a civil action taken by the bank against Mr Quinn jnr, his father Seán Quinn and Mr Quinn jnr's cousin Peter Darragh Quinn. All three were found guilty of contempt.

Mr Quinn jnr is being held in Mountjoy jail.

In July, Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne said she was not jailing Seán Quinn snr because she wanted him to be available to assist IBRC in its efforts to protect assets worth up to €500 million in the Quinn's International Property Group.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Peter Darragh Quinn, who is believed to be outside the jurisdiction.
