London - Queen Elizabeth is to lay a wreath at the scene of the notorious Amritsar massacre in India where British troops of the Raj opened fire on unarmed civilians, Buckingham Palace confirmed today. The royal visit to the holy city of the Sikhs is going ahead against the initial advice of the Indian government.
The queen will lay a wreath at the Jallianwala Bagh memorial where 379 civilians were shot dead and a further 1,200 wounded by British troops under the command of Gen Reginald Dyer, 78 years ago, in 1919.
