One quarter of school students in a Waterford survey say their teachers are difficult to approach and unhelpful, and more than half are unhappy with school regulations, writes Paul Cullen, Education Correspondent.
The survey of young people in the Ballybeg estate in Waterford city finds that one in five young people had been bullied at school. Almost all the cases involved bullying by other pupils, but in two cases, bullying by a teacher is alleged.
Students called for more encouragement from teachers, and greater flexibility in school rules. The vast majority of parents 89 per cent said teachers were helpful in most cases.
