An SDLP representative for north Belfast, Mr Alban Maginness, has said society should not continue to tolerate the "brutal and medieval" practice of paramilitary style "punishment" attacks, writes Clare Murphy. He was commenting on RUC figures which indicate 75 "punishment" shootings and 72 beatings have taken place in Northern Ireland this year.
In the most recent incident a 16-year-old was hospitalised following a "punishment" attack in the Lower Shankill road area.
