IRISH pubs owe IMRO, the Irish Music Rights Organisation, more than £1.6 million in unpaid royalties, it has been claimed in court.
Seeking to have a special hearing in the Circuit Court for July, Mr Brian O'Moore, counsel for IMRO, said an appeal from the District Court would prove to be a test case for many others.
He said the case had listed for hearing on July 12th with no special provision for time. In the District Court the action against Ms Bridie O'Sullivan, trading as The Tatier Jack, Plunkett Street, Killarney, Co Kerry, had lasted four days, divided equally between evidence and legal argument relating to the effects of the Competition Act on both parties/
Mr Micheal O Se, counsel for Ms O'Sullivan, said the proceedings had been strongly contested in the District Court and would be again in the Circuit Court. Judge James Carroll said he would try to facilitate both parties in the allocation of appropriate time for the hearing.
