London - A British publisher offered a $1 million reward yesterday to anyone who can prove one of the most notoriously difficult mathematical theories.
Goldbach's Conjecture was first stated in 1742 as saying that every even number greater than two is the sum of two prime numbers - but no one has yet succeeded in proving the theory. A prime number is one that can only be divided by itself and one. Now, Faber and Faber has offered the reward to anyone proving the theory within the next two years. It marks the publication of a novel by Apostolos Doxiadis - Uncle Petros and Goldbach's Conjecture
