NURSES ARE calling for a report on conditions at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick to be published immediately.
The call was made yesterday on the third day of a four-hour work stoppage over conditions at the AE department of the hospital.
A report on the department by the special delivery unit is with Minister for Health Dr James Reilly and nurses’ spokeswoman Mary Fogarty of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Association says it should be released immediately.
Fourteen specialist surgery procedures listed for the morning had to be postponed until the afternoon as a result of the stoppage, which ended at 12.30pm.
The Labour Relations Commission is to host talks today aimed at finding a resolution to the dispute nurses say came about as a result of dangerous overcrowding and a lack of resources at the hospital.
Healthcare workers from across the country, who are in Ennis for Siptu’s conference, travelled to Limerick to support colleagues.
Bernard Gloster, HSE area manager for the region, said they had accepted an invitation to further talks today.
He said there was no way the hospital could continue to sustain the effect on services from further stoppages.
Five hours of talks last week failed to halt the industrial action.
Speaking at the picket line, Siptu Mid-West nursing organiser Jim McGrath warned that stoppages would continue if a resolution was not found.
