A new portal explaining public sector procurement adverts and tenders has been launched by the Department of Finance.
Users can view requirements and other information relating to tenders and can download tender application documents.
Presently the combined annual expenditure on public sector goods and services is in the region of £3.5 billion.
Public sector tenders are often considered the preserve of large companies and the Government hope smaller companies will have a point of access to learn about potential opportunities in public sector tenders and procurements.
The site will be enhanced next Spring when it will be possible to reply to tenders electronically.
The Department describes the website as "an important first step in the Government’s objective to modernise the public service, through the development of new, innovative and more efficient procurement processes."
Offers from Government, local authorities and State agencies appear on the site which has been developed as part of the Implementing the Information Society in Ireland.
Information will be updated on the site daily and will be free of charge to registered users at www.etenders.gov.ie.
