The PSNI have issued an appeal to witnesses of a serious assault which led to the death of a man in Cookstown, Co Tyrone.

The PSNI have issued an appeal to witnesses of a serious assault which led to the death of a man in Cookstown, Co Tyrone.

Police are treating the death of Leslie Parkes (23) as murder.

Mr Parkes, from Knockmoyle, Co Tyrone, was attacked in Molesworth Street, Cookstown in the early hours of September 19th.

A 20-year-old man was charged last week with assaulting Mr Parkes, who died in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast today.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said there was a large group of people in the area at the time of the assault and they have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
