A race car belonging to one of the UK’s top rally drivers was stolen from a hotel car park in Northern Ireland today.
Welshman Wynn Humphries (26) was asleep in his room when a trailer with the €70,000 Subaru Impreza was stolen from outside the Cohannon Inn, Coalisland, near Dungannon, Co Tyrone.
Mr Humphries is in Northern Ireland for the Ulster leg of the British Rally Championship, which started today.
The alert was raised when a woman parked outside heard tyres screeching as the trailer was pulled away by a blue Citroen people carrier.
The green, white and black-coloured car had just had its engine re-built in preparation for today’s start. CCTV footage of the car park showed the theft taking place.
Mr Humphries, from Aberdovey, near Aberystwyth, mid-Wales is lying in fifth place overall in the rally championship.
