A book of protest will open today over the transfer of breast cancer services from Sligo General Hospital to University College Hospital Galway.
The movement of those services is proceed next month, according to the head of the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) Prof Tom Keane.
Prof Keane has written to GPs in Sligo informing them them Sligo General Hospital will no longer accept new symptomatic breast cancer referrals from August 6th. They have been told they should refer patients with symptoms of breast cancer to University College Hospital Galway from that date.
Campaigners protesting the transfer intend to stage a march and protest outside the Minister for Health's Dublin office next Tuesday.
In Dublin, a protest march will be staged in in Ballyfermot at 3pm from Kylemore Roundabout to Cherry Orchard Hospital following the decision by Cherry Orchard Hospital to close up to 20 beds at the hospital.
People Before Profit Councillor Brid Smith said management cannot guarantee that the beds will re-open in October as originally stated by the HSE.
