THE Police Authority for Northern Ireland has announced new measures aimed at improving relations between police, young people and ethnic groups. The measures are designed to open communication between the two groups and the RUC.
Research has shown that ethnic groups and young people believe their views on policing issues were often ignored, said Prof Herb Wallace vice- chairman of the authority. The two groups complained they were often stereotyped.
The authority has now set up mechanisms to consult directly with the groups. "We are encouraged by the very positive response already taken by the RUC to meet the needs of young people and ethnic minorities," said Prof Wallace.
"A great deal is already being done in terms of training and reaching out to these sections of the community," he added.
