A priest died when the car he was driving and another vehicle collided at Lought, Geashill, Co Laois, on Wednesday. The priest was named yesterday as Father Colm O'Connor, from Lawson House, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.

In Dublin, a 19 year old cyclist was fatally injured in a collision with a car in Dublin last night. The accident happened at a junction on Merrion Road at about 7.30 p.m. The injured man was taken to St Vincent's Hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Meanwhile, a 43 year old woman died and her son, aged 11, seriously injured when the car in which they were travelling was in collision with a lorry near New Ross, Co Wexford, yesterday evening. The boy was taken to Wexford General Hospital but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where his condition was said to be critical.
