PRESIDENT MARY McAleese will meet California's Republican governor former actor Arnold Schwarzenegger during a visit to the US next month.
Mrs McAleese's itinerary during the week-long trip includes stops in three states - California, Oregon and Arizona.
The President will begin her US visit in California where she will be awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of San Francisco. Her itinerary in San Francisco includes an event hosted by Enterprise Ireland at Stanford Business School. She will also officially open two GAA youth pitches in the city.
In Los Angeles, the President will meet Schwarzenegger, in addition to the city's mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who is tipped for a position in president-elect Barack Obama's administration.
Mrs McAleese will attend an event hosted by Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Film Board and Warner Bros aimed at showcasing Irish film. She will also meet with the editorial board of the Los Angeles Times during her visit to the city.
In Oregon, the president will meet the state governor and the mayor of Portland.
She will unveil a Celtic cross erected as part of a Famine memorial in Portland and will meet members of the Irish community during a visit to an Irish cultural centre in the city.
In Phoenix, Mrs McAleese will attend an event at Arizona State University.
The President will depart for the US on December 10th.
