President Michael D Higgins yesterday signed the Bill on judicial pay as passed in the October 27th referendum.
The Twenty-Ninth Amendment of the Constitution (Judges Remuneration) Bill 2011 in accordance with article 46 of the Constitution means judges’ pay can be reduced proportionately if the pay of public servants is being or has been reduced and that reduction is stated to be in the public interest.
It is the second Bill which Mr Higgins has signed, having signed into law the Welfare of Greyhounds Bill on Wednesday.
