The President, Mrs Robinson, has commended the Labour Court "on its determination not to be dominated by lawyers". She said the court was a remarkable indigenous success story.
She was speaking at the launch of a book The Labour Court - No Ordinary Court at Tom Johnson House in Dublin last night, to mark the 50th anniversary of the court. She said the court was remarkable for its accessibility, lack of "gobbledegook" and ability to deal with complex issues in a reasonable way.
The chairwoman of the Labour Court, Ms Evelyn Owens, welcomed the President as an outstanding lawyer and former advocate before the court.
