THE President, Mrs Robinson, will begin a five-day official visit to Boston and New York today during which she will receive several awards and visit the grave of Matilda Tone, widow of the 1798 patriot.
In Boston this evening the President will receive the International Women's Forum Hall of Fame award.
Tomorrow she will be honoured with an award from the Irish Immigration Centre and visit a Famine memorial site.
On Monday, the President will make what is said to be a major speech on international affairs at a lunch hosted by the Boston United Nations Association. She will also visit Boston College and present Irish studies awards.
In New York, Mrs Robinson and her husband will attend the annual Co-Operation Ireland dinner and present an award to former senator, George Mitchell, for his contribution to the peace process.
She will receive a Global Leadership award from the New York United Nations Association. Before leaving for Dublin she will unveil Matilda Tone's restored headstone in Brooklyn.
