The 27th Company of the Girls Brigade celebrated its 25th anniversary recently. A feature of the celebrations was a service at Sutton Methodist Church. The large attendance included senior officers of representative companies in the Dublin area. The chaplains of the company conducted the service.
The Rev Noel Fellows (Sutton Methodist Church) led the service and enrolled the company for the ensuing year; the Rev Canon Cecil Hyland (St Mary's Church of Ireland) said prayer; and Dr William O'Neill (Minister Emeritus, Howth and Malahide Presbyterian Church) preached the sermon.
The 32nd Company of the Boys Brigade in association with Clontarf Presbyterian Church is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a range of activities.
The centenary inspection and display of the company will be held in Mount Temple School on Friday, April 14th at 7.45 p.m. The inspecting officer will be Judge Reg Lockett, the brigade president.
The Fourth Dublin Company of the Boys Brigade, in association with the Malahide Church of Ireland and Presbyterian Church, will hold the junior section display in St Andrew's parish hall on April 8th at 7.30 p.m.
The Associate Minister in Knock Presbyterian church has written what is generally regarded as a valuable analysis of praise in the church today. The publishers are Rutherford House. The book, Sing a new Song, is available from Family Books, Belfast, for £4.99.
Mr Montgomery's aim in writing the book has been to show and convince people of all opinions that there is value in the use of old and new hymns.
The series of Lenten Bible Studies, produced by the National Bible Society of Ireland at the request of the inter-church meeting, continues to be appreciated.
Specially produced for the millennium jubilee year, these Bible studies focus on "Restoring Justice, Living the Jubilee".
The "new horizon event" enters its 12th year. People of all ages are invited and many are expected to again converge on the University of Ulster in Coleraine during July and August. Dates for the event are Saturday, July 29th, to Friday, August 4th. The theme this year will be "Transforming Communities".
The speakers will deal with the role of Christians in society and on the many opportunities and responsibilities existing within communities today.
A feature of the event is the Evening Celebration. A large tent is erected on the university campus for this. The leader will be Steve Brady, the principal of Moorlands Bible College, Dorset. Bible readings will be led each weekday morning by Nigel Lee, an authority on student ministries. Worship will be led by David Lyle Morris, a New Zealander.

Plans are being made for the appointment of this year's summer outreach teams. It is estimated that over 200 young people will be required to meet the needs of local congregations. Application forms are available from the Youth office, Church House, Belfast.
The Presbyterian Church in Ireland "Year Out" team, enabling interested people between the ages of 18 and 25 to take a year out, is seeking applicants. Those chosen will spend a year in local congregations assisting youth leaders and ministers.
