A postmortem is to be carried out on the body of an elderly man found yesterday in a car that had entered a river.
The body of the man, named locally as Herbert Gow and aged 82, was discovered with the seatbelt on in the driver’s seat of a Citroen maroon/red car that had sunk in the river Mulcair near Cappamore, Co Limerick.
The car is believed to have entered the river from a height near Eyon Bridge between Cappamore and Tipperary on Thursday night.
The man was reported missing by his family when they could not contact him.
Gardaí in Limerick issued an alert on Friday seeking the public’s assistance. Mr Gow’s body and car were found yesterday by divers from the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service.
Gardaí removed the car from the scene yesterday to be forensically examined.
