Posthumous bravery award for garda

A garda who was killed in the line of duty is to be given a posthumous award for his bravery

A garda who was killed in the line of duty is to be given a posthumous award for his bravery. The people of Co Donegal are to officially honour the memory of Garda Gary McLoughlin, who was killed by a criminal in December 2009.

Garda McLoughlin (24) was killed when he was struck by a car being driven by Martin McDermott at Burt in 2009.

Donegal County Council is to hold a special reception in Lifford on May 4th to posthumously award him a civic commemorative honour. His family and many of his Garda colleagues are expected to attend the ceremony.

McDermott, of Raphoe, Co Donegal, was jailed for eight years after being found guilty of the manslaughter of Garda McLoughlin.
