The 60ft sperm whale that died at the Greenport slipway on Tory island last weekend was towed to the coastal waters' of Magheraroarty, on the Donegal coast, yesterday evening.
This followed an agreement between the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of the Marine to have the remains disposed of as soon as possible.
Scientific teams from University College Cork and the Irish Wildlife Service were in the area yesterday to carry out a post mortem.
Heavy machinery and chain saws were ready to remove the remains as quickly as possible for burial in a land fill site in the area.
